In the owner's manual for my '03 Classic Cruiser, pp. 97, step 6 indicates to "use a new seal and reinstall the drain plug." Any help on what the 'oil pan seal' is would be appreciated. Also, any specs or P/N on oil filter and what oil is everyone running? I am not new to changing oil/light maintenance/repairs, but am new to turning wrenches on bikes, and thought I'd start out by asking around here.
Thanks for any input...

I may be mistaken but I think the 03's have an "O" ring that unless damaged is reusable. As for the great oil debate.......many answers as to what to use, I think we all have a preference. I use Golden Spectro and replace a 1/2 quart of oil with Lucas oil stabilizer. (no problems to date) I can't think of a more important item than to change the oil before it calls for it. not sure how the new tranny reacts to it but my 01 starts letting me know she's ready for a change if I let it go over 3k. (shifts harder/noisier) Could be I know I'm a little past due on the change, who knows?

i continue to use the Vic oil on my '00, 40k miles.
mostly 'cause i buy it in bulk from Barry2Wheels.

"starts letting me know she's ready for a change "
absoluetly. at first i thought it was me, but it ain't - it's her.
that initial shift into 1st gear with new oil is like a hot knife in butter.
now if only my throttle cables showed up and this (came back again) winter goes away i can feel that feeling again.
