ABOUT UPLOADING IMAGES

Image uploading is allowed in the Garage and the Classifieds forums, all regional ride forums, and in the NIVR Member forums. There are two ways to display images. Uploading them as attachments is the preferred way, for reasons explained below. The board allows up to 5 images to be attached to each post. Images in JPEG or JPG format will be displayed as clickable thumbs within the post. Clicking on a thumb displays the full-size image. Images in PNG, GIF and other formats will be displayed as a link to the full-size image. I'm not sure about BMP images because I've never tried one. You can mix formats within the same post.

Uploading images as attachments:
When you post in a forum that allows images you'll see a Manage Attachments button near the bottom of the posting page. Clicking that will pop up a second window where you can upload up to five images. After the upload you can close the window and continue with your post. After the upload you can use the same button to delete image attachments also, even for posts that you are editing. The board currently limits JPG and JPEG uploads to max file sizes of 150 Kb and no wider than 800 pixels.
This method is preferred for the following reasons:

Its the only method that can generate thumbs
The images and thumbs are stored in the Vbulletin database and will never be lost, even if the forum is moved.
The link to your image will never be broken due to factors beyond your control, such as changes made at someone else's server.

Posting URLs to images stored on another server:
Just type in the URL to the image. This method makes sense if your image is stored on another server, and for some reason you can't access it directly to upload it. IMG tags have been disabled because they cause the full-size image to display the posts, which can aggrivate users with slow connections. Posting the URL accomplishes the same thing and its more compact.
The URL method has several liabilities:

Changes made at the other server can break the link to your image.
Thumbs won't be displayed and people will have to click on your URL links to see what they are.

Happy Posting!
