Sturgis Mi 8/14

Was thinking about the ride to the 2nd annual Sturgis Mi. event on 8/14. Was thinking about the lousy ride through Chicago to Indiana. Then Rosemary (my girlfriend, for those of you that do not know her) asked why don't we take the new boat accross lake Michigan and ride to Sturgis from there. I do not have any details on cost or time and believe that you get on the boat near Milwaukee. But thought it would be an interesting trip. So I thought I would throw this out for some comments. If you did not go last year, you have no idea of what you missed. I am goinging I have to walk. So, what do you think??

Find out how much it cost's to ride the ferry. Another thought would be to see if somehow it could be found out if they expect a busy weekend, I for one wouldn't care to spend a couple of hours lounging around hot bikes in a line waiting for a ride across da water.

I've decided to ride to Sturgis. Will meet with Daffy and anyone else that wants to join us at Petro gas station in Rochelle (IL-38 & I39) at 8:30am on Saturday, August 14th. We will take route I39 to I88 to I294 to I80 to IN-9 to MI-66. If we can meet anyone along the route, post here or VMC thread and we will stop and join up.

Hey guys, Anyone remember where the heck we met up last year when we road to Sturgis? Is it a oasis at 290 and 294? Please help. Also what time do you think you will be there (whereever that is)

I think you are right Frank but, so many of them are closed for repair and I don't know one from the other anyway.

I will meet you at the oasis, they usually have the gas station open when they work on the facility. Tim, it is the Hinsdale oasis just off of 290, right?? I have not seen them close it completely. What time should we plan on meeting?? Every route is under construction that I know of, earlier the better for me.

Frank, The Oasis is on I- 294 just a few miles south of I-88. Lisa and I are pulling out Friday night taking the long way around. Taking rt.47 south to rt 24 east and staying the night in Gilman IL.(I-57 and rt.24). There we will meet up with Earl and Deanna, and possibly Jim Ellenberg and others on Sat. morning.

For those of you who do not want to take the super slab and deal with construction, we are taking the looong way around and meeting in Gillman, IL at the Apollow Travel Center located at 620 US Hwy 24 West. Meeting approximately at 9am for breakfast and pulling out at 10am for Sturgis, MI. For anyone who wants to leave the night before, we will be staying at the Travel Inn in Gillman, IL located at 834 US Hwy 24 West phone #815-265-7283. We will see you all in Sturgis, MI....if not before.

Hello Everyone,

I was on the road to Holland, Michigan on business and went through the I80 "armpit" today. Please be careful on this stretch of I80, from around the merge of I294 to just west of the I65 cut off, because of construction. Many lane "shifts", uneven pavement, short shoot on ramps etc. Also, no services at the oasis' that I went by. See ya all safe in Sturgis...

Hey guys. I have to work Saturday, so Sturgis is out for me. I was going to meet with anyone who showed up at the hinsdale oasis to say hi on my way to work. Drove by the oasis yesterday and it is completely shut down. :mad: Eloy

Scott, Jim and I are leaving from AOR at 8:30, we are going 294 to 30 to avoid all the shit. We will meet you at the hotel unless you still want want to meet up. Ride safe!!

We'll have to figure out how to get them to you.
