Hi everyone. Tim was in a motorcycle accident on Saturday morning. A deer came out in front of him down near Hennipin. Tim's okay. He only broke his left leg in 3-4 places....that's it considering he went flying about 30 yards into the woods and his bike went end over end another 30 yards. He was helicoptered to St. Francis Hospital in Peoria and will be there until Wed. or Thurs., depending on what happens during his surgery on Mon. They will be putting a steel rod in his lower leg from his knee to his ankle. If you want to visit him, he'd love to see you. Or you can call him at 309-655-4216 (a direct line to his room). His room # is 2221. Tim was very lucky. He had his helmet on, and if he had chosen to go without it, from the damage I saw on the helmet, I would be announcing his funeral here instead. He does have to wear a neck brace for the next 4 weeks because due to the helmet one of the spinal bones chipped, and there is a piece of bone floating around. But everything else is fine.

Sorry to hear about that Lisa. I'm thankful that rescue was available and that Tim will recover. Sounds like it happened in daylight too? That's a reminder for all of us. I ususally don't think of the deer hazard as much until dusk.

Thanks for letting us know.
Our thoughts and prayers are with him.
We'll try to give him a call this evening.
Glad it was only as bad as it was.
Not that it makes any difference at this time because they all can be replaced or repaired, but, which bike was he riding?

Spoke with Tim midmorning, Said he was on the '01 (probably totaled). He also said a witness to the incident said something about 3 or 4 flips by the bike. He seemed pretty alert considering a morph drip. Juli tried to contact Lisa about 8 and he was either still in surgery or in recovery. Mending wishes in his direction!

Spoke to both Tim and Lisa last night. Surgery went fine, put a metal rod from his knee to his ankle. Tim said he was doing 75, maybe 50 when he hit the deer. Also glad he had a helmet on. Lisa said they will send him home on Thursday.

Thank you all for your prayers and concern. Tim is doing fine. He really appreciates all of you well wishes. Sorry we missed a lot of calls (Tim's roomate's wife was the answering service). I am so thankful that we have such good friends. Thank you. Lisa

Just to keep you all informed....Tim will be discharged this afternoon and will be returning home. Once again, thank you all for your friendship and concern. I don't think we could have made it through this without all of our friends and family by our side. Now for the tough part....How do you make a man who is always on the go, stay put and cooperate with the doctor's instructions? My head strong husband will probably expect to go back to work sooner than he's supposed to...Lord, give me strength....Ha!Ha!

...How do you make a man who is always on the go, stay put and cooperate with the doctor's instructions?......LisaHow a nice puzzle? Cut up a big photo of a Victory Hammer into little pieces and then let him have at it.
Steve
Lisa,
Thanks for the update.
And best of luck keeping him down...sorry, but from what I know of Tim, that's going to be darn near impossible.
We'll be in touch.
Best to you all. Hang tough, we know these times are hard for all of your family.

Steve,
A puzzle will never do....he'll go stir crazy. Anyway, best thing for me to do is keep in occupied with blueprints for upcoming jobs. That way he'll feel like he's accomplishing more instead of just laying around (his words, not mine). He seems to be better today.
That hospital had him so drugged up that he says he was sick all the time...now he's in control of his meds and feels better about it.
Daffy, I know you think St. Francis is top notch. Frankly, I think they suck! I had to fight with everyone...from security to nurses to doctors. No one seemed to be putting the patients first (and I don't mean just Tim). I spent enough time there to listen to patients ringing their nurses, calling for help, and nurses not answering for 15 minutes or more (and they weren't doing anything but talking at the nurses station). Maybe that's why they drug the people up so much so they aren't bothered. Anyway, my 2 cents on that particular hospital....maybe different areas are better.
If you'd like to speak to Tim, you're more than welcome to call the house at 815-827-3702.

Jeez, I leave town for a week. The board has been a bit boring lately and I wasn't too worried about keeping up with it until I got back. I log in today and see all of this. My wife is freaking out and thinks we are all crazy. (Well that part is true.) Thank god Tim had his helmet on. We're glad to hear he will be okay. It sounds like he is getting ornery and back to his own self. Good luck keeping him down.
We are thinking about and praying for you all.

Mark,
Tell Chris that this was a fluke. Who would have thought a deer would be running out at 11:30 in the morning? Tim didn't have any other injuries and so she shouldn't worry too much about these things. You know, when I was driving down to Peoria that day, all I thought about was that if its worse than the sherrif thought it was...well Tim was doing what he loves most...riding his motorcycle. You can't live your life on what ifs...you have to live for the moment. That's what we do. Of course I would have been devastated had the outcome been different...but I'm not going to second guess what could have been...I'm thankful for what was.

The whitetail population has gotten out of hand in my opinion. I'd like to see the state put them in same game catgory as coyotes for a couple of years. This would make them legal to take with rifles, and thus easy to pick off at long distance.

Tim and Lisa may not want to see this, but both riders were wearing race leathers and helmet and it looks like they fared OK. Both videos were shot by a cockpit cam. They're sobering but not gory. Both video links are in the first page of this thread.

I hit a fawn once putt'n through twisties at 40 mph on my Vic, but the only casualty (besides the fawn) was a slightly bent front fender.

You know, I hate to be the one to bring this up, but I have to suggest....this looks like it could be the work of a gifted computer tecky and a high quality digital video camera along with some mixing....the net result being the often-posted internet videos that usually turn into some form of internet hyperbole. I'm sure you've all seen the video that was alledgedly from the University of Texas campus security cam (phony) where the adult male was crossing the street and a large Toyota SUV ran a redlight, struck a car, rolled over and---POOF!!!---the student disappears under the SUV, papers scattering everywhere....Or the NYC pizza deliver guy that runs out from between two parked cars, just to get struck by a passing car?
I'm no expert by any means, but this video just seems a little bit hoaky...play it back frame by frame, and tell me where the deer comes from...why can't you see the deer approaching from the field in any of the previous frames?
All due respect and reverence to Tim, and hoping he's healing well and feeling better, but as for this video, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck....
That being said, I think I have to go get my Vic out and get 'er on the road this afternoon....
regards one and all
