I guess I'm somewhat hardheaded, the issue of spyware finally ticked me off enough to do some changes. I changed from IE to Mozilla Firefox and by my observations has virtually done away with popups and spyware. Hot Damn!! With the success I've seen with the browser I went back and downloaded Thunderbird (Mozilla Email client). Transitions were smooth as silk, even allowed transferring of the bookmarks in the browser and address book in the mail client. Speed is back to where it should be for my pitiful dialup and so far not a single hitch. Undoubtedly the easiest software transition I've ever done with the best results. Anybody still using IE or netscape should consider the change IMO.

I wholeheartedly concur. I switched about a month ago and then deinstalled IE and couldn't be happier. Firefox preference menus are much easier to understand than IE's, and you have better control over cookies and passwords. I also use Firefox in Linux.

One drawback is that Microsoft Active X scripts don't seem to run in FireFox and some sites use them heavily. For us surfers that's probably a good thing. Microsoft Active X is a major source of security breaches, but then, what Microsoft product isn't? Microsoft has their head in the sand.
