Went for a drive yesterday and figured I'd share some pics. One of the places I visited was that hill North of Mendota by I39 with all the wind turbines on it. The elevation up there's about 920 some feet, stratospheric compared to most Illinois places. I learned on the internet that these turbines are made by a Spanish company. You can hear the blades swooshing in the wind when you get close. I crossed the river at LaSalle right at sunset and "snapped" the other pic.

Thanks Steve, Never knew that Illinois had any power producing turbines or an elevatation of 920 feet. Thanks

Those turbins are cool, almost mesmerizing to watch, saw some of the blades being hauled one per semi-trailer, those things are 80' long.
Frank, you need to get out of Chitown more often!

If anyone is interested in getting a close up look at these things, there is a new wind farm being constructed about 7 miles northeast of Bradford, IL. I came across it today in my travels. There's a bunch already erected, but several are in various degrees of construction. I saw several of the blades and turbines sitting on the ground ready to be hoisted into place. These things are bloody huge!
You can also get there by going west about 8 miles on Kentville Rd (CR 16) at the point where I-180 & RTE 29 switch from 4 lane to 2 lane.
I manage a tower on Kentville Rd about 1/2 a mile west of rte 29 is why I was in the area. These things are amazing to look at.

I have a couple of photos that came out better than expected consider they were taken one-hande while driving. Now if I can figure out how to get them copied in here.
Nope I can't. Oh well.

The pic can not exceed 150kb and 800 (something ? ) wide.

That 's likely the problem. They're about 400kb each.

I finally got around to figuring out how to resize those photos.
Let's try this again.
