Currently the Sept. 17th ride is planed as a fun ride. I would like to suggest we make it a charity ride to benefit the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Instead of collecting $5.00 let's collect $15.00 per person (like we did for the Kyle Petty ride) and donate the profits to a relief program such as the American Red Cross. I would be willing to put together a nice flyer for the event and make it available to everyone to download and print along with submitting the event to the Daily Herald's Motorcycle Section's Event calendar. What do you guys say? This would be a positive PR event for both the IVR/VMC and bikers in general.
Please reply ASAP so we can get some publicity out about this ride.

I would say it is a good idea and do it.

Excellent. How about advertising it as a minimum donation with more being welcome. I hate getting change from my fifty for things like this.

You could just donate the entire fifty! :D

I'm not sure. We've already had our charity ride. I really don't like the idea of having our hand out looking for money every time we get the members together for a ride.
I have no problem with the idea of giving money for Katrina relief. But I would rather accept voluntary donations than charge a fee for the ride.

Dave has a good point. Therefore I will not pursue making the September 17th ride a charity ride to benefit the Katrina victims. Maybe Tim can set out a donation jar for people to make donations for Katrina relief and the money can be deposited into the IVR checking account and a check cut and sent to the Red Cross.

Jim, other than this post where is the information on the ride for the 17th? Thanks

The information was in the ride flyer that was given to the dealerships back in the spring. The flyer listed 3 IVR rides: a spring ride in April, the Kyle Petty ride in May and a fall leaf ride on Sept 17th. The Sept. 17th ride was susposed to work the same as the other rides with groups departing each of the four Vic dealerships around 11:00 and meeting up at Tim's place at 3:00 for a picnic. Maybe this ride has been canceled and no one ever told me. I took it for granted that since it was in the brochure it was still scheduled to happen.
Hey Tim, are you still planning on having the Sept. 17th ride end at your place for a cook out?

Thanks, I wasn't suggesting that there shouldn't be a ride or anything else. I did not keep that flier and just did not have any info on what it was about. That's why I asked.

Frank, you did get me thinking, I haven't heard anything from anyone about this ride in ages and just took for granted it was still on. I guess I should have confirmed the cookout at Tim's with Tim before announcing it to the group.
