Anyone want to do a putt in Central IL this weekend? I just checked weather.com and it looks like it'll be nice outside both days. Here's the route I propose - fairly scenic most of the way. Either the long route or the shortened one will take most of the daylight.
1. Start at Buchart pub in Buchart IL, on Cnty Rd 2 ("Mt. Auburn Rd") just East of Rochester, around 9 AM or so.
2. Two options here - either take a scenic route along the Sangamon to Beardstown and then Southwest to Pittsfield IL, or skip that scenic leg and blast straight out I72 to Pittsfield to shorten the ride.
3. Pittsfield West on 54 to 96, the Mississippi River Rd on the IL side.
4. South on 96 until it turns East, then break South on small roads to the Golden Eagle Ferry & food & libations.
5. East from Golden Eagle to cross the IL River just North of Alton.
6. Up the IL River Road along the East bank, either back to I72 or else cut East X-country somewhere along the way.
