Too bad that "Cancelled" message wasn't posted about 4 minutes earlier.
It looks like that's the end of that.

I mean that the cancellation notice was posted at 07:45, four minutes after I checked the site, so I rode up there and found nobody. By the second sentence I mean that if this sort of thing, that is, few or no members showing up for a planned event was a rare or unique occurrence, it would be of no significance. Dinner rides, Christmas get together, Sunday rides, the cancellation of planned rides due to lack of interest. However, it has been the rule rather than the exception. At the first meeting of the Arlington Heights chapter there were 13 people who joined. At no function since has there been more than a small fraction of that number in attendance. Now, and I may be wrong, the Huntley chapter seems to be going much the same way. This is not meant to be accusatory, I know people have responsibilities and obligations other than VMC chapter events, though I have gotten the idea, rightly or wrongly, that club events are a very low priority. This makes me feel, and I mentioned this to you at the breakfast in Arlington Heights, that hardly seems to worth effort to maintain what seems to have become fictional. I know that the "Arlington Heights Chapter" no longer has an actual number of active members to qualify as a Chapter under VMC rules, and I suspect this may be the case with the Huntley Chapter. So, as I said, that seems to be that.

Sorry that it happened. There was nothing posted when I looked on the site, I just make it a habit of calling another rider when there is a least a hint of bad weather before I leave to make sure things are still on or worst case there is a least one other person.
Anyway, I do agree with you there is a huge lack of interest. I could go on about why but don't have all day to type. One of the reasons I am still a Top Cat member is because of the rides. Most organized riding group around. Something every weekend, they still went to Galena yesterday. If they cancel a ride because of weather, they do it early and send out a general e-mail.
We have a long way to go.... Look at the bright side, you got to ride yesterday!!!

I agree that better communication might help matters, and phone calls in close proximity to a ride would be better than board posts because of better timeliness. Calling Big Jim or you ( Or conversly...)would have resolved the issue yesterday. I mean, look what is contained just in this thread. The meeting was cancelled, yet at least three of us went on rides anyway, and two of us went to Huntley as well. If there had been some communication the three of us at least could easily have ridden together, possibly more. A small group, but a group none the less, and prospective joiners or active members would have seen something positive occurring, instead of another cancelled event. I didn't anticipate the cancellation, simply because there was a meeting scheduled and the weather, though not ideal, was pretty good, and I just assumed the meeting would take place. I also assume at these things that there are some who do not make their intention to attend known before hand, because of perhaps not being sure they can make it or some other reason. A little more enthusiasm on everyone's part, inclusive of mine, may have prompted a better effort at communication, which probably would have had a better result. I think it's a matter of mindset. Even an enthusiastic member, seeing scheduled rides and events cancelled or showing up for a number of events and finding no significant participation, kills any enthusiasm bit by bit and starts a circular pattern of cause and effect. It also doesn't do a lot to attract new members. It seems the Top Cats operate in the exact opposite way with excellent results. The problem is, how do you engender and maintain an enthusiastic attitude in people besides yourself?

Nimbrag; Sorry I missed you; another time I hope. I hope that wasn't you on the Vic I waived to riding just East of the tracks on Main street towards the restaurant, wearing the full helmet, as I was leaving the restaurant going West towards Randy's. Really feel bad if we missed each other by that little.

Hey Curmudgeon...don't think it was me. I was on an Indy Red (really, really bright red, haha) Kingpin and was wearing a half helmet. I was going west on Main St to 47 then went north past Randy's. Perhaps someone else was headed east, haha. As I rode past the restaurant, was about 9:50am or so, I didn't see any bikes parked - saw they had some kind of yard sale or something across the street.
Yes, at least 3 of us were out riding, not together though, haha. As I said in a post somewhere else, I'm not much of a club guy. I feel if friends want to go out and ride they should. Not into the rules, regulations, disclaimers, secret handshake kind of stuff. In the past I was always working and couldn't really do weekend stuff, now being unemployed I'm free just about all of the time, hahaha. Been trying to meet up with some of the folks here but it's usually the weather, miscommunication or not enough for a quorum. I ran into BigJim at a car show last year, and I ran into Stilcrazy at a gas station last week. There's hope..........
